Uses a Particle Photon IOT development board with a AHT20 Temperature/Humidity sensor to collect and log data to the cloud. The current application of this sensor node is to monitor a small room that has been adapted into a greenhouse for struggling tropical plants during the colder months. The data is also used by If This Then That applets in order to trigger LED grow lights, a humidifier, and a small space heater using TP Link Kasa smart plugs. Future plans for this project include expanding the system in order to automate watering when a person is physically not able to be present to do so. Possible solutions for this could use 3D printed, motorized valves with selectable ports from a water line to eliminate the need for multiple pumps while allowing a reasonably estimable amount of watering.
The firmware was optimized to allow the unit to use as little power as possible between sensor readings. Additionally, the hardware includes provisions for a LiPo battery to be recharged over USB or a solar panel input. The data is then stored and visualized using the Thing Speak API. Below are graphs that display the temperature and humidity readings of the "Plant Hospital".
